SYC Entrance 2024
The Dredge Crew has worked diligently this year making possible 2024 SYC boating experiences. Their work may not be noticed, but it should be appreciated by all SYC members.
Please remember when using the SYC entrance, to stay on the nautical range.
Respect SYC #15 rule: “Boats coming into the Entrance Channel from the lake have the right of way over those leaving the basin”.
Information on how our dredging process works.
The Day Shift leaves the dock at 8 am to set up the equipment and they work until 1 pm. At this time, the Afternoon Crew arrives and they continue to work until 6 pm. We dredge in all weather conditions except North winds. We are unable to proceed under these conditions as our equipment is not designed to handle significant wave action.
Our dredging permit is active from April 15th to May 15th and if necessary we can resume dredging July 15th until October 31st.
This year the weather and the permit issues allowed us to dredge fourteen out of a possible nineteen days. When we dredge we try to obtain a minimum depth of 3 metres (10ft.). This year when we started, we had a 1.8 metre (6 ft.) sand bar across our entrance.
We were very fortunate that, within this short time period, we were successful in our attempt to achieve a usable entrance.
Did you know we have six to seven club members on each dredging shift? We also have a list of other members who are available to spare at short notice. In total over thirty members help to accomplish our much needed dredging. My thanks go out to each and every one of these dedicated members and their families.
The Dredge Crew would like to thank all the members who provided the many cookies, muffins, brownies, and other tasty treats. Thank you to: Lori Guggisberg, Laurie Jensen, Wendy Bartlett, Margo Leeson, Lyndee Hayes, Deb Stronach, Kelly Boston, Wendy Lawrence, Amber Nicole Elliot, the Day family, and anyone else that I may have missed. You are the people that help make our Club so special. When it is 2 degrees and raining out on the barge, a coffee and some sweets really hit the spot.
Have a safe& fun boating season!
